1916-1918
Nora, is a cultured woman in her forties charming and independent. When she left her home town her name was Rina. She was fleeing a mother that committed suicide when she was only in her teens, miserly and violent husband who seduced her making her pregnant and desperate. When young Nora makes the difficult decision to abandon everything, including her son Walter whom she adores, she is a young woman fragile and confused. This Nora that now lives in Florence in the pre-war years, looks a totally different person. Her friends are politicians, painters and writers, and all regard her as a great writer and intellectual. Her life’s marked by a long sequence of sentimental relationships as intense as they are brief up to the moment when young Dino Campana - the greatest poet of the period - rises arrogantly pushing all others into the background. An initial exchange of more or less ‘formal’ correspondence leads to the decision to meet. When Nora goes to the small Tuscan country town for this encounter, deep in her heart she already knows what is in store.
